Nigerian media personality Toke Makinwa has asked people, particularly those significantly younger than her, to avoid using terms of endearment such as “dear”, “love” and “hun” when addressing her without an existing relationship.
Makinwa made the remarks while weighing in on the recent “Good Morning Tony” controversy, which sparked discussions about how younger people should address older individuals.
The media personality said people could simply greet her politely or use her name instead of using overly familiar expressions.
She also disclosed that she dislikes being called “Sis”, explaining that the term can sometimes create a false sense of familiarity before relationships eventually turn sour.
“Thank you Mr Tony for opening the floor, while we are at it, if I am significantly older than you and we are not familiar in any way, resist the urge to use terms of endearment such as ‘dear, love or hun’ while addressing me. Thanks,” she said.
Prompt News reports Makinwa added that she has no problem with people addressing her by her name, but strongly objected to being called “Sis”.
