A Federal Road Safety Corps official attached to the RS 8.28 Igede Unit Command in Ekiti State has sustained a leg fracture after he was allegedly knocked down by a motorcycle rider attempting to evade arrest.
The incident occurred on Thursday along the Ado-Iyin Road when the rider, identified as Master Oladapo Success, allegedly rode at high speed while trying to escape from FRSC personnel.
The injured officer, identified as SMI GM Kolawole, was immediately rushed to a hospital by his colleagues for medical attention.
The FRSC said the rider allegedly pretended to be unconscious after realising the severity of the incident, a development which reportedly attracted public sympathy and created tension at the scene.
The situation was, however, brought under control following the intervention of police officers from the New Iyin Police Division.
Reacting to the incident, the Ekiti State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Corps Commander Sanya Adeoye, expressed concern over what he described as the persistent recklessness of some motorcycle operators in the state.
Adeoye said the command would intensify enforcement against traffic violations considered major contributors to road crashes across the state.
He reiterated the corps’ commitment to creating a safer motoring environment and reducing road traffic crashes to zero.
The sector commander also directed the command’s Intelligence Office to carry out a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Adeoye urged motorists and other road users, particularly motorcycle operators, to comply with traffic rules and regulations, warning that reckless driving could endanger both road users and law enforcement personnel.
