British pop sensation Jessie J has revealed that she has been diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer and will undergo surgery following her performance at Capital’s Summertime Ball later this month.

In an emotional Instagram video shared on Wednesday, the 37-year-old Price Tag hitmaker disclosed that she has been undergoing a series of medical tests in recent weeks before receiving the diagnosis.

“I was diagnosed with early breast cancer,” she said. “Cancer sucks in any form, but I’m holding on to the word ‘early’.”

With her trademark humor still intact, the singer added, “It’s a very dramatic way to get a boob job. I am going to disappear for a bit after Summertime Ball to have my surgery, and I will come back with massive tits and more music.”

Jessie J explained that she decided to speak publicly about her diagnosis to help herself process the experience and to offer support to others who might be facing similar challenges.

“I just wanted to be open and share it,” she said. “One, because, selfishly, I do not talk about it enough. I’m not processing it because I’m working so hard. I also know how much sharing in the past has helped me with other people giving me their love and support and also their own stories. I’m an open book.

“It breaks my heart that so many people are going through so much similar and worse – that’s the bit that kills me.”

She went on to reflect on the emotional weight of the diagnosis and how it’s shaped her outlook: “The timing of it has been mad but also beautiful and given me this incredible perspective in this time.

“But honestly I need to process it and talk about it and, I need a hug. You have loved me through all my good and hard times. And I don’t want this to be any different.”

Jessie J’s diagnosis comes just a year after she welcomed her son, Sky Safir Cornish Colman, following a miscarriage in 2021. Her health journey has been marked by challenges over the years, including a heart condition diagnosed at age eight, a minor stroke at 18, and a brief loss of hearing in 2020.

The singer is scheduled to perform at Wembley Stadium for Capital’s Summertime Ball on Sunday, June 15.
