One month after it was set up by the National Sports Commission (NSC) and Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), the 7-member Welfare Committee to support the Super Falcons during the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco is as good as dead as the members are stranded in Nigeria few hours to Nigeria’s opening game against Malawi at Al Madina Stadium in Rabat tomorrow.
The Committee which was formed to ensure the players’ comfort, handle administrative support, and oversee the prompt payment of bonuses and allowances is unable to function following the none release of funds to facilitate its activities.
Chaired by NFF Executive Committee Member, Ms. Aisha Falode, with NFF Director of Competitions Ms. Ruth David serving as secretary, the Committee has been crippled due to lack of funds to even hold an inaugural meeting in Nigeria not to talk of traveling to the Kingdom of Morocco.
As at the time of filing this report members of the committee are still stranded in Nigeria while the competition has started in Morocco.
Meanwhile, it has been reliably gathered that the Super Falcons are desperately waiting for the arrival of the Welfare Committee members to discuss some important issues concerning the welfare of the team before the players take to the pitch tomorrow against Malawi in Rabat.
Efforts to get the reactions of both NSC and NFF top officials were unsuccessful because they have travelled out of Nigeria to the going Commonwealth Games in Scotland and WAFCON in Morocco respectively.
As it stands the Welfare Committee which was inaugurated with fanfare in Abuja by NSC Director General, Hon. Bukola Olopade may have died a natural death with the competition in Morocco already in its second day today.
