Nollywood actress Maureen Solomon has said she has no regrets about stepping away from the movie industry at the peak of her career to focus on raising her children.
Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television’s Rubbin’ Minds, the 42-year-old actress admitted that leaving acting was not an easy decision but said motherhood became her top priority.
“It was difficult because when I started having my children, I had to make a choice. When I had my first son, it was easy. I could take him to work, movie locations and everywhere,” she said.
“But when my second child came, it wasn’t that easy. I had help in the house, but when my daughter was about five years old, things were no longer going well. I had to stop and give my time to them.”
Prompt News reports Solomon explained that her upbringing influenced her decision, noting that she was uncomfortable spending long periods away from her family because of work.
“Maybe because of how I was trained, I don’t really believe in going so far and leaving home for a very long time. So, I had to stay back,” she said.
The actress, who has since returned to Nollywood, said resuming her career has been easier because her older children are now adults and more independent.
When asked whether she regretted pausing her acting career, Solomon dismissed the suggestion.
“Regrets how? I have a 20-year-old and a 19-year-old now. They are grown, though I still have a seven-year-old. Anyone can attest that if parents are present, it makes a difference. I don’t regret it at all,” she said.

She added that although she was away from the spotlight, she kept track of developments in the film industry and has successfully adapted to changes such as the emergence of streaming platforms and the growing popularity of cinema productions.
Solomon also recounted how she began her acting journey, revealing that she entered Nollywood unexpectedly after accompanying her elder sister to an audition, where she landed her first movie role.
She made her screen debut in “Alternative” and later appeared in films including “Not With My Daughter,” “Snake Girl,” “Final War,” “Angel of My Life,” and “Careless Soul” before taking a break from acting to concentrate on her family.
Solomon married medical doctor Okereke in 2005, and the couple have three children together.
