Music producer Samklef has stirred fresh conversation online after asserting that he owns six songs from Wizkid’s debut album, Superstar.
In a post shared on X, the producer-turned-artist alleged that the 2011 project was recorded in his studio without payment for the recording sessions. He further stated that no formal agreement was signed at the time, adding that he is prepared to revisit the matter with Banky W, co-founder of Empire Mates Entertainment (EME), the label that released the album.
“Thank God I never used my masters to collect any loan. I’m about to negotiate with @BankyW since I didn’t sign any contract from the beginning. I hope the Wizkid Superstar masters were never sold,” he wrote.
Samklef went on to claim partial ownership of the project’s masters, stating: “I own 6 tracks from the masters because Banky didn’t pay for the studio sessions — and I also own the studio where all the songs were recorded.”
Despite his assertions, it is yet to be determined whether the producer holds any enforceable legal rights to the tracks or if his claim is solely based on the alleged unpaid studio time.
