The Federal High Court in Abuja has remanded Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi in Kuje Correctional Centre after he pleaded not guilty to an eight-count charge bordering on forgery, conspiracy and impersonation.
Adeyemi is being prosecuted by the Federal Government through the police over allegations that he presented himself as the Director-General of the purported Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council.
The prosecution alleged that Adeyemi conspired with two other persons, identified as Femi and Anu, who are still at large, to forge presidential appointment letters and other official documents.
The charges, filed in November 2025, alleged that the documents were made to appear as though they originated from the State House and other government offices.
Adeyemi was also accused of falsely presenting himself as the Director-General of the purported council between 2024 and 2025.
Following his not-guilty plea before Justice Mohammed Garba Umar, prosecution counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, told the court that the defendant had effectively put himself up for trial.
Oyedepo urged the court to remand Adeyemi in custody pending trial, citing his conduct before his arrest and arraignment.
However, defence counsel, Genesis Francis, informed the court that he had filed and served the prosecution with an application seeking bail for his client.
Justice Umar subsequently adjourned the matter until October 12, 2026, for trial and hearing of the bail application.
The court had earlier ordered Adeyemi’s arrest after he failed to appear for arraignment on the previous adjourned date. He was arrested about 24 hours later.
Among the allegations contained in the eight-count charge are that Adeyemi and his alleged accomplices forged an appointment letter purportedly signed by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, as well as presidential letterhead papers.
The prosecution also accused him of forging requests for collaboration with the Ministry of Lands, office space, staff account approval and other documents purportedly issued by the State House.
Adeyemi is facing the charges under provisions of the Miscellaneous Offences Act and the Penal Code.
