Dr David Ombugadu, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the 2023 governorship election in Nasarawa State has denied media reports that he will dethrone some traditional rulers when he becomes governor.
Ombugadu declared in a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday that he had no intention to replace some Muslim traditional rulers with Christians as alleged.
The report is “false and malicious’’, he said in the statement issued by the Director, Media and Publicity Directorate of his campaign organisation, Mr Mike Omeri.
“The claim in the media report that the plot was hatched at a meeting in Abuja is the figment of the warped imagination of the purveyors of the fake news,’’ he said.
Ombugadu noted that he had consistently demonstrated a deep respect for traditional institutions and recognised their vital role in preserving the culture and heritage of the people.
He added that he believed in maintaining harmonious relationships with all segments of the society, including traditional rulers to foster development and unity.
“We encourage the media to exercise due diligence and verify the accuracy of their sources before going to press.
“It is crucial to refrain from spreading misinformation that can be damaging to the reputation of individuals,’’ he said in the statement.
Ombugadu also reiterated his commitment to working for the betterment of Nasarawa State, and to uphold the rule of law and foster cooperation between all stakeholders.
The three-man Governorship Election Petition Tribunal that sat in Nasarawa State declared on Oct. 2 that Ombugadu won the March 18 election in the state.
In its split decision of two judges to one, it ordered the sack of Gov. Abdullahi Sule of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and asked INEC to issue a Certificate of Return to Ombugadu.
Gov. Sule and the APC have, however, signified their intention to file an appeal against the tribunal’s judgment. (NAN). READ ALSO:
