Several Nigerian music heavyweights, including Ayra Starr, Davido, Wizkid, Burna Boy and Omah Lay, were unable to secure wins at the 2026 Grammy Awards held on February 2 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
The event, hosted by South African comedian Trevor Noah, featured intense competition in the African-focused categories.
In the Best African Music Performance category, South Africa’s Tyla claimed the award, beating notable nominees such as Burna Boy’s “Love”, Wizkid and Ayra Starr’s “Gimme Dat”, Davido and Omah Lay’s “With You”, and “Hope & Love” by Eddy Kenzo and Mehran Matin.
Burna Boy also missed out in the Best Global Music Album category, where Youssou N’Dour’s “Eclairer le monde: Light the World” took home the prize.
The win marked another milestone for Tyla, who first earned the Best African Music Performance Grammy in 2024 for her breakout single “Water”.
