A 99-year-old woman from Afaraukwu community in Umuahia has appealed to President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Government to grant freedom to detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.
The elderly woman, Mrs Sarah Nwanyisunday Oparaocha, a native of Etitinabu Na Ndagbo in Afaraukwu, made the plea on Saturday while addressing journalists at her residence.
Speaking emotionally in Igbo, laced with proverbs, the nonagenarian said her greatest desire before her death was to set her eyes on Kanu in his hometown once again.
According to her, she has continued to pray daily, asking God to soften the hearts of Nigeria’s leaders to allow the IPOB leader return to his people.
“I am already 99 years old and will soon be 100. Every morning, I cry during my prayers because of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu,” she said.
She added, “I am begging the Federal Government to release him so that I can see him before God calls me. No one knows when that day will come, but I will be fulfilled if I behold him again in Afaraukwu.”
Her appeal coincided with a meeting held by members of the community, who gathered to demand the release of their kinsman.

Beyond her call for Kanu’s freedom, Mrs Oparaocha advised younger generations to embrace healthy living, urging them to consume natural, locally prepared foods.
She cautioned that the intake of unhealthy meals could harm the body and shorten lifespan.
