The widow of late Nollywood comic actor John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, has opened up about the difficult conditions she and her children have been facing since his death, appealing to Nigerians for assistance.
She made the appeal during a conversation with content creator King Mitchy in a video released on Wednesday, where she spoke about the family’s challenges and their efforts to cope.
According to her, unpaid bills have left the household without electricity for close to two months, while basic necessities have become increasingly difficult to afford. She explained that the family now depends on water drawn from a well and spends evenings searching for places to charge their phones.
“We fetch water from the well. Because I have not paid the house rent. And they have even cut my lights for two months now. No lights since. We have been like that. Every night we go to look for a place to charge our phones. And… It’s not easy,” she said.
One of the late actor’s daughters expressed appreciation for their mother’s sacrifices, saying she has continued to care for the family despite the hardship.
“I want to thank God for my mom. She tries everything she can to feed us, to pay our school fees, to make us happy,” she said.
The widow also revealed that the children’s education has been disrupted because school fees remain unpaid.
“Right now, they can’t go to school again. I can even show you the message the school sent me today,” she said.

Prompt News reports King Mitchy said the purpose of sharing the video was to seek help for the family to cover school expenses, pay outstanding rent and restore electricity.
Mr Ibu, one of Nollywood’s most beloved comic actors, passed away on March 2, 2024, at the age of 62.
