Workers under the Joint Action Committee of the Ondo State-owned tertiary institutions have suspended their indefinite strike and directed members to resume duty on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.
The affected unions are the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, Non-Academic Staff Union, NASU, and National Association of Academic Technologists, NAAT.
The unions embarked on the industrial action on September 2, 2026, over issues affecting workers in the three state-owned universities.
In a statement signed by the JAC-ODSTI Chairman, Comrade Tayo Ogungbeni, and Secretary, Comrade Kunle Akinwonmi, the workers said the suspension followed a financial intervention by the Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, towards resolving the crisis.
The affected institutions are Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko; Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa; and the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo.
The committee expressed appreciation to Aiyedatiwa, the state Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Igbekele Amos Ajibefun, and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Duties and Union Matters, Comrade Bola Taiwo, for their roles in resolving the dispute.
The unions also commended members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists and the general public for their contributions towards resolving the impasse, which they said had negatively affected the education sector.
However, the committee appealed to the managements of the affected universities to urgently address the non-financial aspects of the Federal Government and unions’ agreement.
It warned that failure to resolve the outstanding issues could lead to another industrial dispute in the institutions.

The statement directed all affected workers to resume their duties on Tuesday, September 29, following the suspension of the strike.
