The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 33-year-old woman, Hauwa’u Haruna, over the alleged killing of her co-wife, 43-year-old Jamila Adamu, at the Tafawa Balewa Housing Estate in Bauchi.
The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday.
According to Habib, the incident occurred around 4:05pm on September 27, 2026, after the C-Division received a report of a domestic disturbance involving the two women.
He said preliminary investigations indicated that Hauwa’u, who is the second wife, allegedly picked up a pestle and hit Jamila on the forehead, leaving her unconscious.
Habib said police detectives attached to the division were immediately deployed to the scene after receiving the report.
He stated that officers documented the scene before taking the victim to the Specialist Hospital, Bauchi, where a medical doctor pronounced her dead.
The police spokesman added that Jamila’s remains had been deposited at the hospital mortuary for an autopsy.
Following the incident, the suspect was arrested, while the pestle allegedly used in the attack was recovered and kept as an exhibit, Habib said.
He added that the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, had ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.

The command condoled with the deceased’s family and urged members of the public to avoid domestic violence, while encouraging families to seek timely medical and psychosocial assistance for relatives experiencing mental health challenges.
