Fresh controversy has emerged around the family of late Nollywood star Mr Ibu after a woman identifying herself as the actor’s first wife publicly reacted to recent claims of financial hardship made by his widow, Stella Maris Okafor.
The response followed Stella’s appearance in an interview with influencer King Mitchy, where she spoke about the challenges she and her children have been facing since the actor’s death. Stella said unpaid rent had left them relying on water from a well and living without electricity for two months.
In a video shared online, the woman challenged Stella’s account and made a series of allegations about how family affairs were handled during Mr Ibu’s illness and after his passing.
According to her, Stella allegedly took actions against members of the family while the actor was receiving treatment.
“Stella Okafor, whom King Mitchy interviewed, is the fifth wife of my late husband, while I am his first wife. When my husband was on his sickbed, Stella had my first son and our adopted daughter arrested because they were in charge of the money Nigerians donated.”
Prompt News reports she also claimed that some of Mr Ibu’s investments and properties were later sold.
“Even after my husband’s de@th, Stella sold the house in Enugu for about ₦18 million. She also claimed that water was entering Mr Ibu’s house in Lagos, prompting the police to advise us to rent her another house. We did, not knowing she intended to sell the Lagos property as well.”
The woman further alleged that proceeds realised after the burial were not properly managed and criticised the recent public appeal.

“After my husband’s burial, Stella and her group took all the money and went on a spending spree. Now you think karma won’t catch up with you? What you’re experiencing now is only the beginning; the real karma is still coming. Even if people donate millions of naira to you again, you will still come online in the future to beg.”
As of the time of filing this report, Stella Maris has not issued any public response to the allegations.
