Davido, a Nigerian Afrobeats superstar, has been selected as one of the global artists to perform at the 2025 Essence Festival.
Essence is a monthly American lifestyle magazine that focuses on fashion, beauty, entertainment, and culture. Launched in 1970, it is targeted at African-American women.
The Essence Festival was launched by Essence magazine in 1995 to mark its 25th anniversary.
The festival is designed to celebrate, uplift, and promote African-American culture, community, and heritage through music, art, and storytelling. Initially intended as a one-time event, it has since evolved into a prominent annual cultural celebration.
In a recent update on X, the organisers of the festival announced the initial list of artists set to perform at the event.
The list of performers includes Maxwell, Master P, Boyz II Men, GloRilla, The Isley Brothers, Nas, and Summer Walker.
The organisers also announced a special segment called ‘Essence Flowers,’ which will pay tribute to Quincy Jones, the renowned US record and TV producer who passed away in November 2024.
“We know. You were refreshing our feed. You were texting the group chat like, “They better not play with us this year”,” the post reads.
“The first wave of the lineup is here. Boyz II Men. Davido. Maxwell. Master P. GloRilla. The Isley Brothers. Nas. Summer Walker.
“Jermaine Dupri presents an “ESSENCE Flowers” tribute to Quincy Jones. And that’s just the beginning. You know we love a surprise.
“Text your people. Lock in your PTO. Get your tickets. We’ll see you in New Orleans.”
The 2025 edition of the festival is scheduled to take place in New Orleans, Louisiana, from July 4 to 6.
