Talent manager Asa Asika has reflected on his long-standing relationship with Afrobeats star Davido, describing the singer as arguably the most influential Nigerian below the age of 40.
Speaking in a recent interview, Asika pointed to Davido’s huge social media presence and ability to attract major brands as evidence of the singer’s reach and influence.
He also compared Davido’s level of influence to that of a president, revealing that he often jokes with the singer about his status.
“Davido is probably the most influential person from Nigeria below the age of 40, in my opinion.
I say to him all the time, “You do know you’re kinda like the President of Nigeria?
There are some things I’ve seen Davido do, and I’d be like, if someone else did this, they would never get back from it. Sometimes I’m like, yeah, it’s over.
I don’t know how we’re going to bounce back from this. And everybody wakes up tomorrow morning, and they’re like, yeah, nothing happened.”
According to Asika, Davido’s popularity has helped him recover from controversies that might have had more serious consequences for other public figures.
The manager also described the singer as a “walking billboard”, saying brands frequently seek opportunities to associate their products with him because of his visibility.
“I have emails from brands like, “I just want Davido to hold this bottle for 20 minutes or put it in his video.”
He explained that Davido’s commercial appeal has also meant that he rarely has to personally fund his music videos, as brands have often supported the projects.

“He hasn’t paid for music videos with his own money in ages. He had a 10-year deal with a Chinese phone company, but he can’t even unlock their phone. They’d get angry whenever he held an iPhone, so anytime he did, they’d deduct money”.
Prompt News reports Asika also recalled how the singer’s brand partnerships have influenced his own approach to collaborations, saying he has become more selective and prefers deals that appear natural rather than forced.
The manager’s comments offer an insight into the scale of Davido’s commercial influence and the relationship the pair have built throughout their years working together.
