Afrobeats icon Davido, whose real name is David Adeleke, has confirmed that he has officially stepped away from the legal tussle over the custody of his daughter, Imade Adeleke, with her mother, Sophia Momodu.

The award-winning singer shared the update through a series of emotional posts on his Instagram stories late Friday, explaining that his intention from the beginning was not to gain full custody, but to secure joint custody of his daughter.

According to Davido, the prolonged court battle only ended up hurting Imade, stressing that there was nothing to celebrate about the situation.

“1. I never asked for full custody … I asked for joint custody

“2. Nobody won, nobody lost but Imade … so I don’t know why some pple r celebrating.. there’s nothing to celebrate.”

He further revealed that his decision to drop the case was influenced by a painful moment during court proceedings, where his late son, Ifeanyi Adeleke, was mentioned. Davido described the incident as deeply hurtful and unacceptable.

“3. I’ve decided to drop the case because when I was spanking that lawyer in the court room all .. she would get so frustrated .. because normally I finish school .. I was finishing her .. until she brought out her last card ! MY DECEASED SON ! THATS A NO NO ! Lowest blow!”

Despite the outcome, the singer maintained that his daughter would grow up knowing he stood firmly by her, urging everyone to move forward.

“4. My daughter will grow up knowing I fought for her .. let’s move on ❤️🙏 One love !”

In another post, Davido directly criticised Ebelechukwu Egeonu Enedah, the lawyer representing Sophia Momodu, accusing her of misconduct and insensitivity for referencing his late son during the hearing.

“@belachukwu … I disgraced you in the courtroom.. I was teaching you your work you couldn’t even take it and then went on to mention My Son.. like I said in the courtroom I pray you never go through what me and my wife have gone through ever .. and u were still smiling smirking .. u are a wicked human being. UR THE WORST LAWYER EVER I BEAT YOU IN COURT! YOU ARE NOT LEARNED.”

The custody dispute initially gained public attention after a lawyer, Maruf Mohammed, claimed on X that Davido appeared in court in Yaba, Lagos, on Thursday and became visibly emotional during cross-examination, creating tension in the courtroom.

Prompt News reports with this announcement, Davido has made it clear that he is choosing peace and emotional healing, prioritising his daughter’s well-being above all else.
