Tomeka Thiam, wife of internationally acclaimed singer and songwriter Akon, has reportedly initiated divorce proceedings after nearly three decades of marriage.
The couple, who exchanged vows on September 15, 1996, have a 17-year-old child together. According to TMZ, Thiam filed the divorce papers just four days before what would have been their 29th wedding anniversary, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split.
Terms of the Divorce Filing
Court documents reportedly show that Thiam is asking for joint legal and physical custody of their teenage child. She is also seeking spousal support while insisting that Akon should not be entitled to any financial support from her.
