Chef Hilda Baci’s ambitious Guinness World Record attempt to cook the largest pot of jollof rice took an unexpected turn when the massive pot crumbled during the weighing process.
The incident happened late in the night after hours of uninterrupted cooking. Once the rice was done, a crane was brought in to hoist the giant pot onto a scale — a mandatory step to validate the record. But in the middle of the lift, the container gave way under its own weight, leaving the crowd in shock.
Onlookers screamed as the crane operator was ordered to stop immediately to avoid possible casualties or further damage.

Clips of the incident have since gone viral on social media, but they do not reveal whether the weighing was eventually carried out, leaving questions about whether the record will still be recognised.
Until that moment, the cookathon had been smooth and widely celebrated, making the mishap all the more dramatic.
