The Sokoto State Police Command has arrested a suspected bandit allegedly linked to the theft of livestock in Gidan Madi, Tangaza Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect was reportedly apprehended at a market while in possession of a goat which was later identified by its owner as one of the animals allegedly stolen from the community.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmed Rufai, confirmed the arrest in a telephone interview with our correspondent on Thursday.
Rufai said the victim identified not only the recovered goat but also the suspect as one of those allegedly involved in the livestock theft.
According to the police spokesman, the suspect and his accomplices allegedly invaded Jurelku, a village in Gidan Madi, on September 15 and made away with the victim’s animals.
He said, “The suspect was arrested at the market with a goat.
The owner identified the goat and also identified the suspect and his colleagues who came to Jurelku, one of the villages in Gidan Madi, where they took away his animals.
“The suspect is currently in custody and he is giving us full information.”
Rufai said information obtained from the suspect could assist the police in locating and apprehending other members of the alleged livestock theft syndicate.

He added that investigation into the matter was ongoing.
