The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has directed workers and the general public to boycott telecom services provided by MTN, Airtel, and Glo starting from 11:00 AM on Thursday, February 13, 2025, in protest against recent tariff hike.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by NLC President Joe Ajaero and Secretary Emmanuel Ugboaja, the union condemned the price hike and demanded an immediate reversal to previous rates.
“The CWC demands an immediate reversal of the tariff hike, which took effect today, and insists that the companies revert to the previous tariff until the committee completes its deliberations and reaches a conclusive agreement,” the statement read.
As part of the protest, the NLC has directed that from February 13 until the end of the month, workers and other willing Nigerians should boycott the services of MTN, Airtel, and Glo daily between 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM.
The union also criticized the government for failing to shield citizens from corporate exploitation and expressed concerns over proposed Tax Reform Bills, warning against policies that could worsen the financial burden on Nigerian workers.
The NLC further stated that if the tariff hike is not reversed by February 29, 2025, a nationwide telecom shutdown will commence on March 1, 2025.
Prompt News reports that the Congress called on civil society organizations and all Nigerians to join the protest against what it described as unfair economic policies.
