The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the discovery of the body of 76-year-old Sikiru Olatunji, who was reported missing days ago.
His remains were found in a forest in Yewa North Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, noting that the body was located after an extensive search conducted by security operatives and local volunteers.
According to the police, Olatunji’s corpse was discovered about 1.5 kilometers from Wasinmi Abule Maria in Yewa North, lying face-up with a cutlass beside him. No visible injuries were found, raising questions about the circumstances of his death.
“The discovery was made during a bush-clearing operation and a coordinated search effort involving officers from the Imasayi Police Division, Amotekun operatives, the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, local hunters, and the Baale of the community,” Odutola stated.
Following the recovery, Olatunji’s family requested and was granted permission to take custody of his remains for burial.
However, the police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of death and are seeking information from the public to aid their inquiry.
“The Ogun State Police Command urges anyone with useful details to come forward and assist in ensuring a thorough investigation,” Odutola added.
