The Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria (LGAN) has allayed fears over Nigeria’s readiness to host the 2026 All Africa Challenge Trophy, expressing confidence that the IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja, will be ready for the continental championship.
The assurance followed an inspection of the ongoing renovation works at the IBB International Golf and Country Club by the leadership of the club and the President of the Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria, Lami Ahmed.
The IBB International Golf and Country Club has been closed to golfing activities for more than a year as renovation works continue under the Federal Government.
During the inspection, the delegation assessed the greens and selected holes, with the course showing significant progress ahead of the tournament scheduled for November 2 to 7, 2026.
Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, Hon. Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, CFR, expressed confidence that the course would be ready to host the championship, while Chairman of the Interim Management Committee, Peter Deshi, disclosed that the club is expected to reopen for golfing activities in less than a month.
The renovation extends beyond the golf course, with the clubhouse and other facilities also receiving a facelift as part of efforts to improve the overall environment ahead of the continental event.
Speaking after the inspection, LGAN President Lami Ahmed commended the Board of Trustees and the Interim Management Committee for the progress recorded so far.
Ahmed also called on the African golfing community and sponsors of the tournament to look forward to the 2026 All Africa Challenge Trophy, expressing confidence in the preparations and describing the upcoming championship as an event to anticipate.
With the course, clubhouse and other facilities undergoing rehabilitation, the Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria says the ongoing work provides reassurance ahead of Nigeria’s hosting of the continental golfing championship.
The 2026 All Africa Challenge Trophy is scheduled to take place at the IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja, from November 2 to 7, 2026.
