Ayodele Omidina, the first wife of late Yoruba comic legend Babatunde Omidina, widely known as Baba Suwe, has opened up about the circumstances that led to the end of their marriage.
In a heartfelt interview with Kunle Afod, Ayodele revealed that Baba Suwe walked away from their relationship without providing any reason, especially after tying the knot with fellow actress Omoladun.
“It’s true, Baba Suwe abandoned me after he married Omoladun. He didn’t give any explanation despite several people going to meet him for reconciliation,” she disclosed.

Ayodele said she eventually accepted her fate, even though she continued to receive support from others. She also acknowledged that despite the separation, Baba Suwe remained responsible for his children.
Reflecting on their early days, Ayodele — who began acting in 1979 — shared that their relationship started before Baba Suwe became famous.
“We have been together before he (Baba Suwe) started acting. I was still in school when he said he wanted to marry me,” she said.
She also discussed how their split affected her career, accusing the late actor of discouraging producers from casting her in films.
“I stopped featuring in movies after we separated, but I wasn’t hurt that people stopped calling me for roles because that was something Baba Suwe had already put in place,” she stated.
“He used to tell people that they couldn’t cast me all the time because I was a full housewife. That mindset stuck with many of them, which is why they still don’t reach out for movie roles. However, I’m still interested.”
Baba Suwe, born on August 22, 1958, passed away on November 22, 2021. His second wife, Omoladun, also a comedian, died in September 2009.
Paying tribute to her late husband, Ayodele described him as a man with an unshakable drive.
“I married ‘Baba Suwe’ when he was nobody, there was nothing with him then, so, I knew him very well as a very determined person that wanted to be a great man despite all odds,” she said.
