The Independent National Electoral Commission has extended the deadline for political parties to submit the names and personal particulars of their candidates for the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections by three days.
The electoral body announced that the new deadline is now midnight on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, replacing the earlier deadline of Saturday, July 11.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna.
According to INEC, the extension followed a request from the Inter Party Advisory Council, which appealed on behalf of political parties that were unable to complete the upload of their candidates’ details before the initial deadline.
The commission said the decision was taken to allow affected political parties sufficient time to conclude the online submission of candidates’ information in line with the timetable for the 2027 general election.
INEC explained that the extension reflects its commitment to promoting inclusiveness in the electoral process while remaining within the provisions of the law.
The commission also urged all political parties to take advantage of the additional period to complete the upload of the required information before the new deadline expires.
The extension comes after several political parties reportedly encountered challenges in uploading the names and personal particulars of their presidential and National Assembly candidates through INEC’s online nomination portal.
