ABUJA – Nigeria is demonstrating its commitment to hosting a successful 2026 All Africa Challenge Trophy, with the extensive rehabilitation of the IBB International Golf and Country Club in Abuja providing a major boost to preparations for the continental women’s team golf championship.
With 29 days to the tournament, the Club’s Board of Trustees has assured that the facility will be ready to welcome golfers and officials from across Africa.
The Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, Hon. Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, CFR, gave the assurance following an inspection of the Club, expressing satisfaction with the progress of work at the facility.
The IBB International Golf and Country Club has undergone significant rehabilitation after being closed to regular golfing activities for more than a year, with the golf course and selected holes receiving attention alongside improvements to the clubhouse and other facilities.
The scale of the work reflects the importance attached to providing a befitting venue for the championship, as Nigeria prepares to welcome some of Africa’s best female golfers to Abuja.
Justice Dongban-Mensem said the Club will be ready for the AACT, providing further assurance that the rehabilitation programme is on course ahead of the November 2 opening.
The Chairman of the Club’s Interim Management Committee, Peter Deshi, has similarly expressed confidence in the progress of the work, with golfing activities expected to resume at the facility ahead of the championship.
For the Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria, the readiness of the host venue is central to the country’s preparations.
President of the Association, Dr. Lami Ahmed, has also expressed confidence in Nigeria’s preparations as the country gets set to stage the championship.
The 2026 All Africa Challenge Trophy is scheduled for November 2 to 7 at the IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja.
As the countdown enters its final month, the message from the host venue is clear: Nigeria is putting the facilities in place and preparing to welcome Africa to Abuja.
