Afrobeats singer Tekno has shared his thoughts on the growing “Olodo Uprising” trend, arguing that entertainment does not always have to be built around intelligence or intellectual depth.
The singer made the comments during an interview with Yanga FM while discussing the popularity of entertainers whose content centres on humour, simplicity and sometimes goofy behaviour.
Tekno said audiences can enjoy entertainment simply because it makes them laugh, regardless of whether the content demonstrates intellectual sophistication.
“Intellectual no dey work again. Wetin I go do with your intellect? I can watch Carter Efe for hours and just be laughing at him, just being goofy, because that’s interesting,” he stated.
He cited comedian Carter Efe as an example, noting that his ability to entertain audiences through his humorous personality shows that people do not necessarily need complex or intellectual content to remain engaged.
Prompt News reports Tekno also drew comparisons between contemporary entertainers and popular Nollywood characters from previous generations, particularly Osuofia and Mr Ibu.
According to him, the appeal of the characters played by actors such as Nkem Owoh, popularly known as Osuofia, and the late John Okafor, better known as Mr Ibu, was largely connected to their comic and seemingly foolish behaviour.
“Back in the day wey you dey watch Osuofia and Mr. Ibu, wetin make you been like them? No be the mumu wey dem dey mumu? So it’s nothing new, just that now you can do mumu in your own home and get paid,” he added.
Tekno noted that while the style of entertainment is not necessarily new, the major difference is the platforms now available to creators.

He explained that entertainers can now produce such content from their homes, reach large audiences online and make money from their personalities without necessarily going through the traditional entertainment industry.
His comments come amid ongoing conversations around the “Olodo Uprising” phrase, which has been used to describe the rising popularity of entertainers whose appeal is driven by humour, unconventional behaviour and straightforward content rather than intellectual presentation.
