Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti admitted his disappointment after seeing his side settle for a 1-1 draw against Morocco in their opening Group C match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Prompt News Online reports.
The Atlas Lions stunned the five-time world champions by taking the lead through Ismael Saibari. Brahim Diaz carved open the Brazilian defence with a perfectly weighted through ball, allowing Ismael Saibari to race clear and delicately lift his effort over the advancing Alisson Becker.
Brazil responded two minutes after the half-hour mark through Vinicius Junior.
The winger appeared to pose little threat when he received a pass from Bruno Guimaraes on the left edge of the penalty area, but he cut inside before unleashing a fierce right-footed strike that flew past the helpless Yassine Bounou and into the net.
Despite salvaging a point, Ancelotti expressed frustration with the result as Brazil were unable to find a winner in an entertaining contest.
“I think we didn’t start very well, I’m a little worried. We lost a lot of duels and possession, but we improved in the second half of a difficult match, because Morocco is a good team,” Ancelotti was quoted by FIFA.com.
“In the first half, we had difficulty getting out of the pressure, we could have had more control. [Was I] Satisfied? Not really. I expected a better start. But things can happen. Now I’m going to focus on the next game.”
Brazil will face Haiti in their second Group C game at the Philadelphia Stadium on Saturday, 20 June, while Morocco will be up against Scotland.
