The Kogi State Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old woman, Charity Williams, during a raid on a suspected criminal hideout in Oguda village, Okene. Officers recovered firearms, ammunition, hard drugs, and more than N2 million in cash during the operation.
Police spokesman, SP William Aya, said on Thursday that operatives attached to the Okene Division stormed Yuwander Lodge after receiving intelligence that the facility served as a criminal hideout.
“Upon searching one of the rooms booked by a suspect identified as Christopher Christopher Kadiri, a lady named Charity Williams, aged 23, was arrested and the exhibits were recovered,” Aya said.
Recovered items include a locally made Beretta pistol, a locally made barrel gun, six rounds of live ammunition, an axe, four mobile phones, substances suspected to be hard drugs, and N2,047,300 in cash.
Kadiri, the prime suspect, reportedly fled before police arrived. The command said efforts are underway to track him down.
In a separate operation, officers attached to the Ofu Division recovered a locally made barrel gun, a cutlass, and a Tecno phone in Ogbakpedo village along the Itobe–Ayingba road.
The recovery followed intelligence reports that kidnappers had been sighted in the area, though the suspects escaped before police closed in.
Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Miller G. Dantawaye, commended the officers for their dedication, stressing that the command remains resolute in its fight against armed robbery, kidnapping, and other violent crimes.
Security experts note a growing trend of female associates being drawn into criminal networks, often tasked with renting rooms, handling cash, or concealing fugitives to evade security scrutiny.
