From Harry Awurumibe
Atlas Lionesses were in an imperious form as Morocco thrashed hard fighting Leopardesses of Congo DR 4-2 in the second Group A match played at Olympic Stadium Rabat on Wednesday night, thanks to captain Ghizlane Chebbak’s hat-trick, which moved the host country straight to top of the group.
Although Congo DR ran into an early lead when top star Merveille Kanjinga scored in the 6′ but Morocco’s Chebbak equalized in the 25′ and made it two goals in the 43′ as the first half ended 2-1 in favour of the Moroccans.
On resumption, both teams came out strongly to take a lead, but it was Congo DR that was rewarded when Flavine Mawete made it 2-2 in the 70′.
However, Chebbak completed her hat-trick in the 75′ while Yasmin Mrabet scored from the spot in the 83′ to ensure that Morocco defeated Congo DR 4-2 in the six-goal thriller.
