Nigeria booked a place in the final of the Unity Cup after defeating Zimbabwe’s Warriors 2-0 in their semi-final clash at The Valley on Tuesday night, Prompt News Online reports.
Femi Azeez was the star of the show, scoring twice on his debut for the Super Eagles.
The forward opened the scoring with a brilliant strike from outside the box after being teed up by Terem Moffi.
The Super Eagles dominated the opening half and restricted Zimbabwe to very few clear-cut chances.
Philip Otele, Alhassan Yusuf, and Moffi all came close to extending Nigeria’s lead before the break but failed to convert their opportunities.
Zimbabwe improved after the restart and enjoyed more possession, but Nigeria’s defence remained resolute under pressure.
Azeez grabbed his second goal just after the hour mark, calmly finishing from inside the area following an excellent pass from Otele.
Arthur Okonkwo also produced a fine save with 20 minutes left to preserve Nigeria’s clean sheet and deny Zimbabwe a route back into the contest.
The Super Eagles will now face either India or Jamaica in Saturday’s final at The Valley.
