Three unidentified men
were killed while several others sustained injuries when gunmen attacked participants at an annual traditional festival in Eku, Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State.
The incident occurred on Monday night during the festival, with the victims reportedly caught up in violence that erupted following an earlier attack on a member of a group in another part of the community.
A source who spoke about the incident said the earlier attack allegedly triggered a reprisal at the festival, where some youths were targeted.
According to the source, three persons were shot dead during the violence, while others sustained injuries, with some reportedly attacked with cutlasses.
Meanwhile, an anti-cultism advocacy platform, Naija Confra, described the incident as a suspected cult-related attack in a post seen by PUNCH Metro.
The platform identified two of the deceased as Isaac, popularly known as Ziko, and another man identified as Baby Police, stating that the two were close friends.
It said the identity of the third victim had yet to be established, adding that it would not describe him as a cultist without sufficient evidence.
The post read in part, “One was identified as Isaac, alias Ziko, while the second victim was identified as Baby Police. Both men were reportedly very close friends.”
The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, could not be reached for comment on the incident as calls to his telephone line went unanswered.

A text message sent to the police spokesman had also not received a response as of the time of filing this report.
