Guinea-Bissau head coach Emiliano Té has dismissed concerns over the poor condition of the pitch at the September 24 Stadium in Bissau ahead of Tuesday’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying clash with the Super Eagles.
The Djurtus are set to welcome Nigeria in the Group L matchday two fixture, but the state of the playing surface has become a major talking point after days of heavy rainfall in the capital.
Persistent downpours have left sections of the pitch waterlogged, raising concerns about how the conditions could affect the crucial encounter.
The Super Eagles had the opportunity to inspect the surface during their training session at the stadium on Monday.
However, Té maintained that the condition of the pitch was beyond the control of both teams, insisting that his side must simply adapt to the circumstances.
“We are playing in Africa and we know that our pitch is not one of the best, but it is what it is. It is what we have and we cannot do anything about it,” Té said during his pre-match press conference.
“We also don’t like to play on it the way it is now, but we can’t control that because it is raining, and they are doing their best to make it good.”
