Nigerian rapper Sodiq Abubakar Yusuf, popularly known as CDQ, has sparked debate after declaring himself a better rapper than veterans Olamide, Phyno and MI Abaga combined.
The ‘Nowo Soke’ hitmaker made the claim while speaking on a recent episode of the Faloh Frequency podcast.
Although he acknowledged the lyrical ability of fellow rapper Blaqbonez, CDQ insisted that he ranks above him and the three veteran acts.
“I am a better rapper than Blaqbonez, Phyno, Olamide and MI combined,” he said.
Prompt News reports CDQ argued that a rapper’s popularity or commercial achievements should not be the yardstick for determining their ability.
According to him, lyrical substance, quality and depth are more important when assessing a rapper’s talent.
The rapper maintained that his own lyrics possess greater depth and quality than those of many of his colleagues in the Nigerian music industry.
His comments have since generated mixed reactions online, particularly after a clip from the interview circulated widely on social media.

Some social media users criticised CDQ for what they described as disrespect towards veteran rappers, taking issue with his claim that he was better than Olamide, Phyno and MI combined.
Despite the backlash generated by the statement, CDQ has yet to issue a clarification or withdraw his claim.
