Motorists can save ₦66 on every litre of petrol purchased at participating Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited retail stations under a 30-day discount scheme introduced by the Federal Government.
The Minister of Finance, Taiwo Oyedele, announced the initiative on Thursday, stating that it applies exclusively to NNPC retail outlets, with public transport operators given priority.
The discount, which commenced on October 1 to commemorate Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary, will run until October 31, offering motorists an opportunity to reduce their fuel expenses.
To benefit from the offer, motorists must take the following steps.
First, download and register on the NNPC Fuel App, available on Google Play and the Apple App Store. Registration is necessary to access the discount.
Second, make payment through the app when purchasing petrol at participating NNPC retail stations. Motorists can use the platform’s station locator to identify eligible outlets near them.
Third, purchase petrol before October 31, when the month-long promotion is scheduled to end. The discount applies to eligible purchases made during the promotional period.
Fourth, commercial drivers, transport unions and fleet operators should also register on the app.
The Federal Government has indicated that public transport operators will receive priority under the initiative.
Fifth, check the prevailing pump price before calculating the savings. The ₦66 reduction is deducted from the current price at the point of purchase, rather than establishing a uniform price nationwide.
For instance, based on the prices cited in the report, petrol selling for ₦1,370 per litre in Abuja would cost ₦1,304 after the discount, while a litre priced at ₦1,350 in Lagos would cost ₦1,284.
NNPC has clarified that the offer is restricted to its retail outlets and does not determine the prices charged by independent fuel marketers.
