Nigeria’s Super Falcons began their quest for a place at the 2028 Olympic Games with a 2-0 victory over Comoros in the first leg of their second-round qualifying encounter in Ikenne on Friday.
The 10-time African champions controlled proceedings in the first half but were unable to convert their dominance into goals before the break.
Nigeria eventually took the lead two minutes into the second half, courtesy of Michelle Alozie, who netted her second career goal for the Super Falcons.
Uchenna Kanu extended the hosts’ advantage in the 60th minute, rising to the occasion to connect with Jennifer Echegini’s corner-kick and fire the ball past the Comoros goalkeeper.
The victory gives Nigeria a two-goal cushion ahead of the return fixture, scheduled to take place at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne next Tuesday, as the Super Falcons aim to advance to the next stage of the qualifying campaign.
