The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old school gateman, Josiah Ayomide, for allegedly defiling a four-year-old pupil in Ibadan.
Police spokesperson, Adewale Osifeso, disclosed this on Thursday at the command headquarters, Eleyele.
He said the victim, on August 29, 2025, complained of pains in her private part to her elder sister before later confiding in her mother that the school gatekeeper had sexually assaulted her during school hours.
According to Osifeso, the suspect confessed to the crime after his arrest.
The child was taken to the Police Medical Clinic, Eleyele, where a medical report confirmed that her hymen was not intact, with bruises and tenderness observed around her genital area. He said the suspect would be charged to court after investigations are concluded.
In a separate development, the police also arrested two men, Azeez Kolawole and Isah Fatai, for allegedly stealing goats across Ibadan and its environs using a Toyota Matrix without a number plate.
The PPRO noted that both suspects had previously been arrested and prosecuted for similar offences, adding that they confessed and investigations were ongoing to track other members of their syndicate.
The command also paraded other suspects linked to kidnapping, armed robbery, and vehicle hijacking.
Recent incidents of sexual abuse in schools have raised public concern over the safety of children in learning environments.
Reports from different states show that some gatekeepers, teachers, and staff have been implicated in similar offences.
