Nollywood veteran Saidi Balogun has publicly expressed his support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration, describing it as successfully pursuing a transformative agenda for Nigeria.
In a recent appearance on Nollywood On Radio, Balogun addressed the criticisms often directed at the current government and explained why he personally backs its policies.
He emphasized that leaders who reach a certain age and level of wealth tend to focus more on leaving a lasting legacy than on accumulating further riches—a quality he believes President Tinubu exemplifies.
“So if I decided to say okay this one is old enough, he is rich enough and when people get to certain age, all they are thinking of is what will people say when I leave? They have had that money when they needed it, now all they would be thinking about is transformation,” Balogun said.

The actor also compared Tinubu to other notable leaders, expressing confidence in his administration. “I want to be like Awolowo, I want to be like… And I decided to say I know all of you but this one is better out of all of them. We should think, that is why if you abuse till tomorrow, I will just laugh. Abuse me today, you will praise me tomorrow.”
Balogun highlighted what he described as “several positive economic indicators” achieved under the current government, citing the increase in Nigeria’s foreign reserves and reforms to the student loan programme.
“Like today, our foreign reserves has gone up to $40 billion. Those people, they have been in government before, what happened to our foreign reserves? Look at what they are doing to student loans now, students in the north are singing,” he added.
Having started his acting career in 1978, Balogun has built more than four decades of experience in Nollywood, earning recognition as one of the industry’s most respected figures. He has starred in numerous films and received multiple accolades for his contributions to Nigerian cinema.
