A group of concerned women from Bille Kingdom, including mothers of the abducted victims, staged a peaceful protest at the Rivers State Government House, demanding urgent intervention following the abduction of 13 passengers by sea pirates.
Speaking during the protest, one of the women, Alale, said, “That is why the women—the mothers—are here. I’m also a mother and have come out to say enough is enough.
These mothers of the abducted and the entire women of Bille are here seeking help so that these children can be released and reunited with their families.”
Presenting a formal address to a government representative, protest leader Janet Adebayo recounted the incident: “On May 6, 2025, along the Port Harcourt–Bille waterways, a speedboat carrying 13 passengers was intercepted by heavily armed pirates who diverted the boat into the creeks.
Since then, the abducted individuals have remained missing, causing deep distress for their families.”
She described the attack as part of a growing security threat to commuters and the economic stability of riverine communities, particularly Bille Kingdom.
Adebayo appealed for swift action from the Rivers State Government and the nation’s security agencies. “We urgently call on the Nigerian Police, the Army, and the Navy to deploy patrol units, intensify surveillance, and launch rescue operations.
We also seek your support in working with relevant agencies to ensure the victims’ safe return and prevent future attacks.”
Responding on behalf of the government, the Camp Commandant of the Rivers State Government House, O.I. Gabriel, thanked the women for their peaceful approach and assured them that their message would be promptly delivered.
