Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have killed two suspected kidnappers linked to the abduction of the Prince of Okun Owa, Idris, during a follow-up operation carried out after the victim regained his freedom.
The operation, conducted by the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, also led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, an empty magazine, two mobile phones, a bag believed to have been used for ransom collection and other incriminating items.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Omolola Odutola, said the command recorded another major success in its campaign against kidnapping following sustained pressure that secured the prince’s release and the subsequent neutralisation of two members of the gang.
According to the statement, the traditional prince was abducted on June 30, 2026, at about 7:30 p.m. when armed men stormed his residence in Okun Owa and whisked him away.
The Commissioner of Police immediately directed the deployment of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and other tactical teams to rescue the victim and apprehend those behind the crime.
Police said coordinated intelligence-driven operations forced the kidnappers to release the prince unharmed on July 3.
Following the rescue, security operatives intensified efforts to track down the suspects.
Acting on credible intelligence, they raided the Agoro/Imodi area, where the suspected kidnappers allegedly opened fire on the operatives.
The police responded, leading to a gun battle in which two of the suspects were killed, while other members of the gang reportedly escaped with gunshot injuries.
A search of the deceased suspects led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle with an empty magazine, two mobile phones, a suspected ransom bag and other exhibits believed to be connected to the kidnapping.
The police said the bodies of the slain suspects have been deposited at a government morgue for autopsy, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing gang members and recover additional weapons and other exhibits.
The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended officers of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and other tactical teams for their bravery and professionalism during the operation.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to dismantling criminal gangs operating across the state and urged residents to remain vigilant by providing timely and credible information to security agencies.
