Veteran actress Omotola Jalade Ekeinde has highlighted the urgent need for a structured system in Nollywood, particularly regarding residual payments for actors.
Sharing her thoughts on Instagram, the celebrated star compared her experiences in Nollywood with those in Hollywood.
Despite spending 30 years and starring in over 310 Nollywood productions, Omotola revealed she has never received residual income.
In contrast, during just four years in Hollywood—after only two test projects—she began earning monthly residual payments.

Residuals are ongoing earnings paid to actors each time a film or TV show is rebroadcast, streamed, or reused, a practice common in well-structured industries like Hollywood that provides creatives with long-term income from their work.
She summed up the disparity, stating: “Just 4 years in Hollywood. 2 test projects. Monthly residuals. 30 years in Nollywood. 310+ projects. No residuals. Nollywood needs structure.”
Her remarks have reignited discussions on improving policies, actor welfare, and sustainable benefits within Nigeria’s film industry.
