YBNL founder and Nigerian rap icon, Olamide, has shared that he finds managing a record label far easier than being in the spotlight as an artist.
In a recent sit-down with YouTuber Korty EO, Olamide opened up about how his background as an artist has given him a unique edge in running his label, helping him relate better with the creatives under his wing.
He said:
“It’s way much easier for me being a music executive than an artist because I’m an artist so I’ve an understanding of the needs of creatives.”

Explaining further, he pointed out that he’s familiar with the emotional highs and lows that come with being in the music industry.
“I know the way we think, I know the way we see things. I know when we are in an element. I know when we want to run mad. I know when we are getting high on our supply. I know when we are getting high on the fame, life, money and success. So, it’s easier for me to deal with creatives. I try not to bite more than I can chew.”
Speaking on the criticism some rappers face for switching to singing, Olamide rejected being confined to any one style or label.
“You can’t box me and call me a rapper— I love music,” he said.
The music star has continued to mentor rising talents through YBNL, with his label playing a key role in launching the careers of artists like Fireboy DML and Asake.
