The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has dismissed allegations by former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) orchestrated its internal crisis.
El-Rufai recently claimed that the APC was responsible for the turmoil within opposition parties, including the NNPP, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the Labour Party.
In a widely circulated video on X, he suggested that President Bola Tinubu’s government was deliberately fueling divisions to destabilize opposition parties.
Responding in a statement on Wednesday, NNPP National Chairman, Dr. Agbo Major, described El-Rufai’s remarks as misleading and baseless.
He insisted that the former governor’s assertions were based on misinformation from individuals opposed to the party’s democratic processes.
“The challenges the NNPP faced, which have already been resolved, were caused by the ambitions of certain individuals who disregarded party agreements and regulations,” Major stated.
He explained that the crisis emerged after the 2023 general elections following the dissolution of a Memorandum of Understanding that had briefly united the NNPP, The National Movement (TNM), and the Kwankwasiyya Movement.
“The origins and developments of this disagreement have been publicly discussed on multiple media platforms since 2023. If ordinary Nigerians are well-informed about the situation, it is disappointing that El-Rufai would make such an unfounded claim,” the NNPP chairman said.
He further stressed that Nigerians would not be misled and that El-Rufai has no influence over the country’s political direction in 2027.
Dr. Major urged El-Rufai to refrain from commenting on NNPP affairs, stating that the party does not consider itself an adversary to any other political group, including the APC. He emphasized that national discussions should focus on governance, development, and adherence to the rule of law rather than political distractions.
