Nigerian singer Adekunle Gold has expressed doubts about the state of democracy in the country, saying Nigeria is not operating as a true democratic society.
The ‘Orente’ crooner made the comment during a recent episode of the One54 Podcast while discussing his colleague Davido’s appeal to United States President Donald Trump over the recently held Osun State governorship election.
Adekunle Gold said he believed Davido’s decision to call Trump’s attention to the election was influenced by concerns over the country’s democratic process.
According to the singer, Nigeria was yet to fully meet the standards expected of a democratic nation.
“I think Davido sent that message to Donald Trump because we are not truly practising democracy in Nigeria. We are not doing what a democratic society should do. I just hope this administration does better than the previous one,” he said.
Prompt News reports Adekunle Gold also expressed hope that President Bola Tinubu’s administration would improve on the performance of the previous government, particularly in the areas of good governance and respect for democratic principles.
