The Niger State Government has ordered the immediate closure of Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida University, Lapai, due to a series of armed robbery attacks targeting students.
In a statement released Wednesday night, the Secretary to the State Government, Abubakar Usman, said the decision was prompted by recent security lapses and the tragic loss of lives within the university community.
The government expressed deep concern over the incidents and urged students and staff to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as efforts to stabilize the situation continue.
“The safety and security of all citizens, especially students, remain a top priority,” the statement read.
“The government is taking urgent steps to restore order, ensure public safety, and maintain peace across the state.”
Authorities also pledged a thorough investigation into the security breaches, vowing to bring those responsible to justice.
