Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has advised former governor Yahaya Bello to focus on addressing the corruption charges against him rather than making efforts to remove her from the Senate.
In a statement on Wednesday, she expressed appreciation to her constituents for their continued support despite the political challenges she faces.
Prompt News reports that Bello is currently under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of mismanaging N80.2 billion.
Senator Natasha’s comments came after the Kogi State Government dismissed her claims that Bello, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Senator Ekpenyong Asuquo had conspired to harm her.
The government labeled her allegations as “false and misleading.”
Kogi’s Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, also criticized the senator, calling her a “serial manipulator” attempting to deceive the public.
Unfazed by the backlash, Natasha reiterated her stance, stating that she would not be intimidated.
“My advice to the former governor is to concentrate on defending himself against allegations of embezzling N80.2 billion rather than trying to undermine the mandate the people of Kogi Central entrusted to me,” she stated. “I remain committed to my people and will not betray their trust.”
She further accused Bello of persistently working against the people’s will.
“Despite facing serious corruption allegations, he continues to interfere with the democratic process. His actions before and during the last general elections, including orchestrating attacks against me, are well-documented.
“This recall attempt is nothing more than another attempt to suppress the will of the people. However, my constituents have made it clear—they reject injustice, they reject any fraudulent recall, and they reject Yahaya Bello and his associates,” she said.
