Tragedy struck Asarara Village in Kebbi State after a 25-year-old man, Idrisu Musa, was arrested for allegedly hacking his elder brother and sister-in-law to death while they slept.

The Kebbi State Police Command said the suspect allegedly attacked Muhammed Haruna and his wife, Habiba Muhammed, with a cutlass in the early hours of Saturday at their residence in Jega Local Government Area.

According to the police, the incident occurred around 5:15am, leaving the couple with severe injuries that later claimed their lives.

The command’s spokesperson, Bashir Usman, disclosed in a statement on Saturday that investigators had recovered strong evidence linking the suspect to the crime.

Usman revealed that Musa had reportedly threatened the deceased couple with a cutlass on several occasions before the fatal incident.

“The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested Idrisu Musa, 25, in connection with the murder of his elder brother, Muhammed Haruna, and his wife, Habiba Muhammed.

“Substantial and implicating evidence has been recovered linking the suspect to the crime.

The suspect had reportedly intimidated the couple with a cutlass on several prior occasions,” the statement read.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Umar Hadejia, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for detailed investigation and possible prosecution.

The command assured residents that justice would be pursued in the matter.

The killings had earlier triggered anxiety among residents of the community following reports that unknown assailants invaded the couple’s home and murdered them.

Residents of the area had reportedly called on security agencies to swiftly unravel the circumstances surrounding the attack.
