Nollywood veteran Kanayo O. Kanayo has stated that the Nigerian film industry was established through the relentless effort and sacrifices of its pioneers.
On Instagram on Monday, Kanayo referenced Hollywood star Denzel Washington, noting the extreme dedication required in Nollywood.

He said, “If Denzel Washington puts in the number of hours I put in the production here, his color will change to charcoal the next day. Because we built this industry with tears, sweat, and blood.”
The veteran actor further reflected on the physical toll of acting while highlighting the resilience of some industry pioneers.
“Some of us are lucky to still have our health in good place. We started this industry at a time when there was a light called 2K. If they bring one 2K on you, they will remove from your name,” he added.
Kanayo’s remarks underscore the immense hard work, dedication, and personal sacrifices that shaped Nollywood into the industry it is today.
