The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of an armed robbery syndicate and recovered a locally made revolver and other exhibits in Akure, the state capital.
The suspects, identified as 35-year-old Isreal Abakah and 37-year-old Gbene Emmanuel, were arrested at different locations within Akure metropolis on September 27, 2026, by operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit of the command.
The command, in a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the arrests followed credible intelligence on the activities of the suspected robbery syndicate.
According to the police, preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects were allegedly members of a gang suspected of terrorising residents of Akure and neighbouring communities.
The police said operatives subsequently raided the gang’s hideout in the Olufoam area of Akure, where they recovered a locally made revolver capable of holding four rounds of ammunition.
Other items recovered during the operation included suspected criminal charms, a laptop, motorcycle mirrors and a number plate.
The command said the suspects had allegedly confessed to participating in several armed robbery operations within Akure metropolis and its environs, adding that their statements and the recovered exhibits were being subjected to further investigation.
The police said efforts were ongoing to apprehend other members of the suspected syndicate who were still at large, while investigators were also working to determine the gang’s possible involvement in other reported robbery cases.
The Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Felix Ohagwu, commended the VCRU operatives for their professionalism and swift response to the intelligence.
Ohagwu reaffirmed the command’s determination to dismantle criminal networks in the state and ensure that suspects involved in violent crimes were prosecuted in accordance with the law.
