Sophia Momodu, Davido’s first baby mama, has spoken about the difficulties and stigma she experienced after having a child out of wedlock with the music star.
She shared her experience while speaking at Columbia University ahead of the United Nations General Assembly High-Level Week.
Prompt News reports Momodu revealed that becoming pregnant by a globally recognised musician was particularly challenging because she is the daughter of a pastor.
“I am a pastor’s daughter who got pregnant out of wedlock by a global superstar. And I was mocked. It was crázy. And I had to find my strength in the midst of all that.”
She said that despite becoming famous and widely recognised, she struggled to have her own voice heard.
“And for the longest time, I didn’t have a voice. I was famous, I was popular, but I didn’t have a voice.”

According to Momodu, the stigma and negative attention surrounding her situation often overshadowed her personal experiences, making it difficult for her to tell her story on her own terms.
She also recalled an aunt advising her to remain silent about the situation because it was considered a subject Black women were not expected to discuss publicly.
